Pilgrims of the Prairies

When traveling through the prairies in western Canada, one finds the land dotted with Hutterite Colonies. Sometimes, their land spans as far as the eye can see. Even so, the land owned by the Hutterites is less per family than the average non-Hutterite farmer.
Leroy and Lavern visited 32 Hutterite colonies in western Canada, each one not quite the same as the next. Most colonies are large, and they almost got lost in their massive building complexes and interconnecting driveways when navigating around shops, barns and houses, looking for someone to talk to.
They thought some introductions seemed to be an interrogation upon arrival. After the Hutterites asked them many questions of where they are from, why they are here, and what do they want, they were well received and given a thorough tour of the colonies. The Hutterites shared many meals with them in their communal kitchens. Later, when visiting with them in their homes, they conversed over coffee and fruit.
This book will touch on the differences between the four Hutterite groups and their customs. From their large farming operations with seven combines working in one field, to seeing a cattle dog separating steers from the herd, to building fire trucks, there was always something to observe.
During their colony visits, Leroy and Lavern also witnessed the graduation ceremony of five Hutterite girls from high school. In this book, you will also learn about the spiritual discussions that were had and the deep interest Leroy took in the Hutterites and the many questions he had for them. All things considered, Leroy and Lavern were very blessed to be able to visit the Hutterites and learn from them.
